UPCOMING FALL DEADLINES: Ph.D. Clinical Psychology & Psy.D. School Psychology 1/15

Reminder, applications to the Ph.D. Clinical Psychology program and Psy.D. School Psychology program for fall admission are due by January 15th. There is no spring admission. Additional information regarding application procedures and program requirements is available in the Graduate Bulletin online at the University website.

Clinical Psychology, Doctor of Philosophy - The Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology consists of four years of full time course work and related practicum experience, followed by a one year clinical internship (or equivalant) in an approved setting and completion of a doctoral dissertation.

School Psychology, Doctor of Psychology - This program offers both a general track and a bilingual track of study. It requires the satisfactory completion of 105 credits, a comprehensive examination, the clinical competencies comprehensive examination, the PRAXIS II Examination, a doctoral dissertation, and a year long internship.

Admission to these programs are highly competitive. A candidate for admission must:
  • Possess a baccalaureate degree  (BOTH)
  • Satisfy the department that his or her undergraduate preparation indicates a high potential for successful advanced study in psychology (Psy.D.)
  • Submit transcripts of undergraduate and any prior graduate work  (BOTH) 
  • Have completed a minimum of 24 undergraduate credits in psychology, including courses in Introductory Psychology, Statistics, and a laboratory course  (BOTH)
  • Submit scores from the GRE General Test and, for non-psychology majors, the GRE Subject (Psychology) Test. The GRE Subject (Psychology) Test is optional for candidates who either majored in psychology or completed a Master’s degree in Psychology  (Ph.D.)
  • Submit acceptable scores from the Graduate Record Examinations (general)  (Psy.D.)
  • Submit three to five letters of recommendation, one of which must be from an individual who will address the matter of the applicant's research potential  (BOTH)
  • Submit two papers from psychology courses: one a laboratory paper and one a term paper  (BOTH)
  • Provide a clearly written statement of educational and professional goals  (BOTH)
  • Complete an interview process with the departmental admissions committee  (Psy.D.)
  • By appropriate record of achievement as well as one or more interviews, satisfy the department that his or her preparation indicates a high potential for successful advanced study in psychology.   •  Students currently matriculated for a master's degree at St. John's University who are interested in the University's doctoral programs must follow the procedure outlined for new applicants.  (BOTH)
